Claire M. Brown, PhD, Professor and Director of the Advanaced Bioimaging Facility, McGill University
The power of networks to accelerate scientific discovery
February 21st 2024 at 12:30pm-1:30pm

Topics: Canadian BioImaging Networks, Courses, and Funding Opporitunites

Dr. Brown is an experienced researcher with over 30 years of experience in the field of quantitative bioimaging. Her primary focus lies in the application of biophysical techniques to investigate the molecular-level regulation of cell adhesion and migration in both healthy and diseased cellular systems.

Dr. Brown has also dedicated efforts to optimize live cell imaging techniques and establish international quality control measures and standards for light microscopy to ensure the acquisition of high-quality, artifact-free bioimage data.

Under her exemplary leadership, the Advanced BioImaging Facility (ABIF) at McGill University has emerged as the preeminent imaging center in Canada. The facility serves as a hub for her initiatives, including the development and implementation of protocols, interactive courses and training programs in fundamental and advanced light microscopy techniques. The ABIF serves upwards of 120 reach labs and offers hundreds of one-on-one customize training sessions for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Dr. Brown holds prominent roles within the community, serving as the Canadian representative for Global BioImaging, a Founder of Canada BioImaging and the Canadian Network of Scientific Platforms (CNSP) and a Co-Chair of BioImaging North America (BINA). Through these initiatives, she fosters the development and sustainability of a collaborative international community and spearheads initiatives focused on technology training, education and professional development of imaging scientists.
